Course description: High school students and Teacher Consultants form a community of writers utilizing fun and creative approaches throughout the writing process. North Star Campers will... build confidence as a writer while discovering personal voice, participate in fun activities and strategies to promote creative thinking and growth, brainstorm, draft, revise, and edit in a community of writers, collaborate, share and receive feedback from peers and instructors, explore creative approaches to Academic Writing that will assist on STAAR and SAT/ACT Writing Tests.

SAT Math Boot Camp

Workshop description: This Boot camp is designed with high school students in mind. This 2 day/4 hour camp will help you crack your SAT with just middle school math and absolutely no algebra. You will learn how to cut corners and solve the problems using various techniques. You will be given a game plan to help you achieve your desired score. Bring a calculator.

Watermedia Batik Flowers Workshop

Course description:   An introduction to the basics of web design. Students will learn to build websites from scratch using HTML and CSS, the basic coding languages used on the web. Lessons will cover effective techniques for modern looking well functioning websites including layouts and making custom graphics. No previous web design experience required. No special software required! There are many free open source tools and software we will put to use.

Course description:   An introduction to the whimsical style of cartoon illustration geared toward 7-12 year olds with some drawing experience. Each class will build on another, covering different techniques cartoonists use to create their unique characters from maintaining volume, creating facial expressions, to body actions. Camp description: This three-day workshop allows for aspiring artists to strut their stuff and learn new techniques in the art o f painting. Course description: 3 intensive 5 hour days of teamwork to write, design, build, and animate a short claymation movie. Claymation is an animation technique where each pose of a clay character is photographed to be replayed at high speed, bringing it to life. Students will come up with their own characters, sets, props, from materials provided and collaborate as a group with Mr. Billy to write a story. 8 students max (too many cooks spoil the broth), so spots will fill up fast. Usually, the enthusiasm is enough to keep even the shortest of attention spans going strong, even with complex characters like the droid General Grievous! Course description: A week long introductory course exploring the cutting edge universe of digital arts and animation geared toward older kids and teens. We will install freely available open source software, including programs like Gimp, and Blender. Students will learn to digitally paint, make pixel art, animation techniques, and 3-D modeling/rendering through various small projects. Laptops must be brought by the student (and don't forget the power cord just in case). PC or Mac does not matter. Drawing tablet not required but recommended. If students already have software like Photoshop or Adobe Flash that is a plus, but also not required. Previous computer experience and knowledge highly recommended. Mr. Billy has taught digital arts courses for over 5 years and has plenty of experience keeping highly technical things easy to understand for the beginner.
